I wanted to do something a bit different than the standard posed portraits I normally do. If you have ever tried photographing children, your own or someone else's, you know how difficult it can be. So I sat for awhile and thought about something that would create a cute photo and still be fun for the child. Paint or water would have been fun for the child and a neat photo concept. Problem is both can get way to messy. I thought some more and landed on food. But how could I make it different? I found a way.
The concept is 'Kids In The Kitchen'. Children love yo eat sweets and if left to their own devices will get into things. What child hasn't tried raiding the cookie jar? A quick trip to the supermarket to get treats for my models to eat was fun. The cashier asked if I was throwing a party. Clearly I had an appealing selection of goodies anyone would enjoy snacking on.
After setting up my equipment and prepping the food how I wanted it I told the child what I wanted them, to do. Eat their favorite treat! The expressions on their faces were a mix of amazement, suspicion, and joy. After realizing I wasn't joking each child dug in happily. So much so the hardest part was getting them to look at the camera. A problem I've never had before. In the end it was worth it. The photos ended up being just adorable.
